Quick care requirements
- Light: low to bright, around 6–8 hours daily.
- Flow: calm surface water; avoid constantly submerging it.
- Temperature: typical tropical and unheated indoor aquarium ranges.
- Nutrients: fish or shrimp waste is often enough.
Adding duckweed safely
Float the portion on the surface rather than pushing it underwater. Spread it across an open area away from strong filter outlets. Remove damaged pieces during the first few days.
Light and growth
Duckweed can multiply quickly under bright light. If growth slows, check that the leaves are not being soaked repeatedly and that the aquarium is not nutrient-starved. More light is not always better; excessive light may encourage algae or yellowing.
Weekly maintenance
Thin it whenever it covers most of the surface. Leaving some open water supports gas exchange and allows light to reach plants below. Use a clean net or cup and never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.
Our duckweed is grown without pesticides in mature home shrimp tanks. Living aquarium plants can occasionally carry tiny snails or eggs despite careful inspection.
