What the eggs look like
Eggs are usually laid in small clear, jelly-like clusters attached to glass, plants, wood or equipment. Tiny round embryos become easier to see as they develop.
How quickly do they breed?
Warm stable water and plentiful food speed reproduction. Exact timing varies, but a small starting group can establish quickly in a mature aquarium.
Why numbers suddenly increase
A population boom nearly always means more edible material is available—often excess fish food, dying leaves or accumulated waste. The snails are responding to the food rather than creating it.
Encouraging a colony
Provide mature surfaces, gentle filtration, stable minerals and a small consistent food supply. Avoid copper medication and snail-eating tank mates.
Slowing breeding
Feed less, remove uneaten food, maintain plants and manually remove some adults or egg clusters. Do not use chemical snail killers in a shrimp tank.
