Why they work together
Both animals graze biofilm and tolerate similar freshwater conditions. Bladder snails cannot hunt healthy adults or baby shrimp, and their activity helps process tiny leftovers.
Will they compete for food?
Some competition is normal, but a mature planted tank contains many grazing surfaces. Feed a balanced amount rather than adding excessive food to make sure every animal eats.
Benefits in a shrimp tank
- Graze soft algae and decaying leaves
- Find food in small spaces
- Act as an early warning of overfeeding
- Add natural movement without threatening shrimplets
Water and treatments
Stable water benefits both. Avoid copper-based products, sudden parameter changes and large careless water changes. Ensure adequate minerals for shrimp moulting and snail shells.
How many should you add?
The right number depends on tank size and available food. Begin with a manageable group and let the population settle. Twenty-five suits established tanks or several aquariums, but do not add livestock to an uncycled system.
